- Advanced Coronary Surgery Fellow
Description
The Advanced Coronary Surgery Fellowship at Emory University is a one-year, closely mentored fellowship intended to create world class coronary surgeons capable of launching their own academic or private practice career with a strong focus in advanced coronary surgery. Applicants must have completed their basic cardiothoracic surgical training and be board-eligible or board-certified in cardiothoracic surgery in the United states, Canada or abroad. The Advanced Coronary Surgery Fellow will scrub daily with Dr John Puskas and be responsible for the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative management of approximately 300 coronary bypass patients annually. Operative responsibility will be progressively increased from skeletonized harvest of bilateral ITA grafts to construction of composite arterial conduits, performance of distal anastomosis and ultimately accomplishing multivessel, complete all-arterial no-aortic-touch off-pump bypass as a routine. Robotic ITA harvest and MIDCAB will also be taught.
The Advanced Coronary Fellow at Emory will also participate in the education of younger residents and fellows and will share in an on-call rotation with them. The Fellow will be assigned 2 to 4 clinical research projects annually and will be responsible for data analysis, reporting, presentation and publication under the direct supervision of Dr Puskas.
