EMERGENCY, an Italian charity providing free, high-quality healthcare to victims of war, poverty and landmines is operational in Sudan with the Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery since 2007, a completely free-of-charge cardiac surgery hospital.
EMERGENCY is looking for a Cardiac Surgeon experienced in valve surgery, rheumatic heart disease and/or congenital heart disease to join a team composed by international and national staff and including doctors in postgraduate training in rotation recognised by Sudanese Medical Specialisation Board and international Universities.
The hospital is equipped with 3 operating rooms, 3 outpatient clinics, 1 oral anticoagulation therapy clinic, 15 ICU beds and 48 HDU/ICU beds, Cath Lab, CT scan, Blood Bank, Biochemistry laboratory and Microbiology.
The Salam Centre is located in Khartoum, Sudan and has been operational during the most intense phase of the conflict, albeit at a limited capacity, to ensure the continuity of care for the patients. As of now, the situation and security conditions have improved in the capital, allowing EMERGENCY to carry on its activity
Position Highlights:
- The ideal candidate is board certified in Cardiac Surgery with demonstrated clinical expertise as a lead surgeon
- Collaborative working environment with international and national cardiologists, anaesthetists, perfusionists and nurses
- Decision-making regarding proposed treatment options, in discussion with the cardiologists and the anaesthetists in the team
- Management of surgical procedures and surgery-related activity in the Centre, leading the training activities in surgical field
Our commitment to you:
- 3-6 months’ overseas stay including a period of leave to be taken at the end of the mission
- Coverage for travel expenses, health insurance and accommodation
- Monthly salary based on the professional experience
- If Italian, possibility to ask for an unpaid leave (Law 125/2014)
