Description
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry invites applications for the position of Chief of the Division Gastrointestinal Surgery at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. We seek an accomplished, clinically active surgeon with demonstrated expertise in bariatric surgery, foregut surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and/or hernia management. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong academic portfolio and a commitment to advancing clinical excellence, research, and education.
Position Highlights
- Clinical practice based at Highland Hospital, one of the 2 University of Rochester Medical Center hospitals in the city of Rochester and has been the primary location for minimally invasive surgery for over 20 years.
- Lead a dynamic division with a comprehensive scope of practice in bariatric, foregut, complex abdominal wall, hernia, and general gastrointestinal, minimally invasive, and general surgery.
- Develop a multidisciplinary center for complex abdominal wall and hernia management.
- Recruit dynamic faculty to complement the current division team with expertise in bariatric, foregut, complex abdominal wall/hernia, and/or general surgery.
- Opportunity to grow the academic portfolio within the Division with resources commensurate to novel research programs.
- Collaborate with a full complement of URMC general surgery residents, a non-ACGME accredited MIS/Bariatrics fellow, and advanced practice providers.
- Engage in multidisciplinary initiatives across a matrixed academic medical center to enhance clinical programs, research, and educational missions.
- Contribute to institutional quality and safety efforts, including participation in ACS NSQIP and MBSAQIP, with ongoing exploration of ACS Geriatric Surgery Verification.

Requirements
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery (or equivalent) and eligible for New York State medical licensure.
Reputation of clinical excellence. - Nationally recognized for being a thought-leader in surgery.
- Demonstrated success in mentoring and developing faculty and trainees.
- Proven ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision for divisional growth.
- Established research portfolio in basic/translational science, clinical outcomes, innovation, and/or surgical education.
- History of leading a successful research program with independent funding (including NIH, private, and/or industry).
