Upstate Medical University: Colorectal Surgeon
The Department of Surgery at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY has an exciting opportunity for full-time, academic Colorectal Surgeon at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
This individual will work with current faculty providing comprehensive high-quality care for colorectal surgical patients across a spectrum of both benign and malignant conditions. The Section of Colorectal Surgery has an established multi-disciplinary colorectal cancer program within the new Upstate Cancer Center. Opened in August 2014, this is a state-of-the-art ambulatory cancer center facility integrated with the University Hospital Downtown campus. The Cancer Center is a beautiful facility that houses multi-disciplinary teams including medical oncology and infusion therapy, radiation oncology, palliative care, psycho-oncology, pain management, genetic counseling, survivorship, and cancer screening. The Cancer Center is fully accredited by the Commission on Cancer and an active member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology. The colorectal program has also achieved NAPRC accreditation.
The program is supported by a multifaceted gastroenterology division including a fellowship trained IBD specialist, advanced imaging with supportive radiology faculty, and designated GI medical oncology and radiation oncology faculty. Ample opportunities exist for clinical trial participation as well as collaboration with basic, translational, and public health researchers. The cancer center focuses on disease-based teams with surgeons frequently serving as the leaders in the multidisciplinary programs.
Upstate Medical University is located in Syracuse, NY and includes a two-campus, 715 bed University Hospital which serves as the tertiary care referral center for Syracuse and the Central New York region. This region comprises 17 counties and a population of over 1 million creating a broad patient population. Syracuse offers a great place to live with access to cultural activities, college sports, and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities including nearby hiking and skiing. The area is also notable for excellent public schools and a family friendly environment.
The candidate must be board certified or eligible in General and Colorectal Surgery, eligible for an unrestricted New York state medical license, and eligible for a faculty appointment at the Upstate Medical University College of Medicine. Fellowship training in colorectal surgery or commensurate experience is required. The successful candidate will provide excellent patient care and also participate in the teaching, training, and mentorship of medical students and surgery residents.
