The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center - ranked by US News and World Report as the best hospital in central Virginia - is expanding and seeking anterior segment surgeons to join our dynamic team. As academic physicians in the evolving field of ophthalmology, we strive to improve the vision and eye health of all people by excelling in patient care, education and research.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center welcomes candidates to apply to this exciting new opportunity for Ophthalmologists specializing in the areas of corneal/refractive, glaucoma, comprehensive ophthalmology (including cataract/medical retina), and oculoplastics. This is a rare and outstanding opportunity to join a collegial, patient-centered, and forward-thinking department committed to clinical excellence and academic advancement. The department supports a 16 resident ophthalmology training program with a full 5-year ACGME Accreditation, providing ample opportunity for teaching and mentorship. Our physician practice group model offers a competitive market-based compensation plan. The position will be offered at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications, with access to the amazing resources and collaborative network of the VCU School of Medicine.

Position Responsibilities:
The candidate must maintain high clinical and ethical standards that will be carried into decision-making processes, adhere to compliance measures, establish and promote an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between all staff disciplines, and foster a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. Residents and certified ophthalmic medical technicians assist with patient care and ancillary testing.
Required Qualifications:
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology with fellowship training pending the position
- Eligibility for, or a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills required
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
