The Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Instructor under the mentorship of Dr. Timothy Billiar. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational research while developing an independent academic portfolio within a leading surgical research environment.
Position Overview
The Research Instructor will advance multidisciplinary projects focused on trauma, inflammation, and immune regulation. The successful candidate will apply data science and bioinformatics approaches to large-scale clinical datasets to identify mechanisms of injury response and recovery. The position provides an opportunity for growth toward academic independence through mentored research, grant writing, and collaboration across multiple research teams.
Minimum Qualifications: MD or PhD in general/trauma surgery or related field
Key Responsibilities
- Design, conduct, and analyze independent and collaborative studies in trauma and inflammation research.
- Integrate multi-omic, molecular, and clinical data using computational and statistical tools.
- Develop and maintain reproducible data pipelines in alignment with institutional data management standards.
- Contribute to the writing of manuscripts, abstracts, and grant applications.
- Present research findings at departmental seminars and national conferences.
- Engage in collaborative efforts across the Department of Surgery and affiliated research programs.
