Description

• Obtain and document comprehensive patient histories, including chief complaint, medical history, medications, and allergies.
• Perform visual acuity testing, refractions, pupillary assessments, confrontation visual fields, and extraocular muscle evaluations.
• Measure intraocular pressure using approved tonometry methods.
• Perform preliminary ophthalmic examinations and accurately document findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and postoperative instructions.
• Perform and assist with ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including but not limited to:
• OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), Visual Fields, Fundus Photography, Corneal Topography, IOL Master/Biometry, Pachymetry, A-Scan and B-Scan, Ultrasound (Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.)
• Prepare patients for physician examinations and procedures.
• Assist physicians with in-office procedures and minor surgical treatments.
• Administer ophthalmic medications as directed by physicians.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR.
• Coordinate effectively with front office and surgical scheduling staff.
• Assist in preparing patients for cataract and ophthalmic surgical procedures.
• Review surgical consents and patient education materials.
• Coordinate preoperative testing and postoperative appointments as needed.
• Adhere to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
• Follow OSHA and infection control guidelines.
• Maintain certification and stay current with ophthalmic best practices.

Requirements

• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
• Minimum 1 years of ophthalmology experience.
• Strong understanding of ophthalmic terminology and disease processes.
• Experience with EMR systems.
• Excellent communication and patient service skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to assist patients safely when needed.
• Ability to operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
