Position Overview
Working with part of the Administrative Dyad for the Division of Hospital-based Care, the Division Chief shares joint accountability for the Division’s outcomes. This is a key position in the administrative structure of Central Maine Healthcare, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer of the Central Maine Health System. The Section Chiefs within the division report directly to this position. This position will require 50% (.5FTE) of this Division Chief’s time.

Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Administrative Director or Hospital Based practices oversee the development of all Capital and Operational Budgets for the hospital-based departments.
- The development of a regionally integrated health system and successfully perform the requirements of the provision of care within a matrixed work environment. Create a patient centered culture of care to the members of our hospital-based practices.
- Participate in developing the strategic direction of the organization and be accountable for the implementation at the department or service line level
- Performance management of the Department/Service Line goals against cascading budget target
- Performance management of the Department/Service Line goals against cascading Patient Safety goals
- Performance management of the Department/Service Line goals against cascading Quality of Patient Care goals
- Performance management of the Department/Service Line goals against cascading Access to Care goals
- Physician performance within the Department or Service Line
- Lead the transformation of the practices including maximizing the electronic medical record and consumer-oriented access
- Work collaborative with the other Department or Service Line Chiefs to attain the stated yearly goals and objectives of Central Maine Healthcare
- Promote and sustain an effective working environment among the physicians, nurses and other staff within the clinics and the hospital
- Ensure the development of future physician leaders for Central Maine Healthcare
- Provide ongoing education to the department or service line regarding administrative, regulatory, and legal issues arising from a changing healthcare environment
- Working with the nursing and administrative leadership, ensure high reliability in the transitions of care among disciplines or sites of service of care
- Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
Required:
- An M.D. or D.O. degree
- Active membership and unrestricted privileges on the medical staff
- Active unrestricted Maine Medical License
- Active Board Certification
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical, medical staff citizenship (i.e. medical record completion, ability to work within the complex team structure of healthcare, patient satisfaction) and patient safety
- Willingness and ability to attend continuing education related to the business of medicine
Preferred:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work in a matrix and dyad structures
- Basic financial skills (operational and capital budgets, variance analysis), or ability to acquire these skills
- Effective coaching ability
- Basic understanding of the complex healthcare environment and delivery of patient care
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Additional languages preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards
